ISB to initiate new programs & centres

The Indian School of Business is initiating new initiatives that comprises launch of new centres (two in number), new programs and augmented weightage on experiential learning for pupils. Along with this, the institute has also planned for a rigorous talent search across the world for acquiring the best faculty– this will assist the institute in overcoming the shortage of talent.

The initiatives are being taken under the mentorship of Rajendra Srivastava, who was appointed as the dean of the business school for Hyderabad and Mohali campuses. The new centres will be two in number:

  • Centre for innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Centre for learning and management practices.

Both the centres will aim at creating a close connection between theory and practise. The faculty of the institute will have the facility of carrying out sabbatical research through the new centres. Along with these two new centres, ISB will have a total of nine research institutes and centres. Both the centres will be funded by ISB itself, however, for the projects and programs, the funding might be taken from particular partners.

To foster cordial relationships and to practise the best in the industry, ISB signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Singapore Management University (SMU) – this will help both the institutes to collaborate better and make the best use of each other’s expertise. This, in return will see magnificent contribution to the education industry and academic developments in India, the Asia-Pacific region and Singapore.

Talking about the programs, the institute is also planning to bring forth young leaders' program and deferred admission option. Through the latter program, students who would be pursuing their bachelor’s degree or master’s degree would have the opportunity of enrolling in the institute. ISB will also be rolling out its executive program.

In the list of new programs being initiated, next to follow is the tri-university program. This program will lay focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. Also, it will be highly beneficial for students, as along with the work experience that they gain after admission to the program, they also get a chance to spend one week each at universities in India, Singapore and China.

When looking for faculty, the dean highlighted three likely talent pools that will narrow down their search. The factors that will be looked upon are as follows:

  • People who have earlier been associated with ISB
  • Visiting faculty’s doctorate students and
  • Global faculty that is active in Asia

According to Rajendra Srivastava, only performing the role of dean is not enough for him. To take the institute to new heights, he has also taken the role of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). He feels that having the best faculty is one of the best mediums to attract students. Presently, the institute has about 45 residential faculty across areas. In three years the dean plans to increase this number to 75 – which means around 10 faulty will be added to the institute per year. Adding on to this, he said, that since there is always attrition. Keeping this in mind, he will aim at hiring about 18 faculty per year.
