The last of this year's paper-based Management Aptitude Test, MAT Dec 2013 concluded today, on December 1, 2013. This national level entrance exam, conducted across various cities of the country, is held in both paper-based and online exam formats.

One of the test centres in Delhi had approximately 400 test takers. While some students were happy with the paper, others were in a not-so-good mood and said they could have done better.

Mayank Arora, a 1st year PGDM student at JIMS - Delhi said, “The paper was fine but according to me Mathematics and GK were the toughest sections, while English and LR were the easiest ones. There were no surprises or glitches in the paper as such.”

Another test taker, a working professional from Apollo Hospital, Neha Dayal said, "According to me, the paper was tough. Maths was the toughest while the Intelligence & Critical Reasoning was the easiest." Upset with her lack of time to prepare for the exam, Neha added, “I am working and it’s really difficult to manage both my work and studies.”

Manish Goswami, a student of AMU, travelled all the way from Aligarh to Delhi to take the exam. He said, “English was the easiest section according to me. But Math was really very tough. I wasn’t expecting such questions in Mathematics.”

For Snehal, a fresh graduate, the exam went quite well. She shared, “The exam was good and I am hopeful to get through. The English and the LR sections were the easiest, while DS and DI were the toughest. There weren’t any surprises in the paper but the GK part was very tricky, I just couldn’t answer all the questions."

Aspiring to get into an IIM or XLRI, Snehal has also appeared for CAT and will be taking XAT and CMAT. She said, "This is my first attempt but let’s see what happens. In case if I don’t get through any of the management exams, I would try for M.Com.”

Any glitches or surprises in the MAT paper?

Ujala who recently completed her graduation informed, “Surprisingly, one of the questions in the Math section was wrong and I really got confused with it. However, the overall paper was good. LR was the easiest; I did not find anything which was really tough to answer."

CAT 2013 v/s MAT 2013:

Most of the students that shiksha.com correspondents spoke to at the test centre preffered taking MAT as they found CAT too tough to crack. For instance, Mayank Arora said, “CAT is very tough and MAT is quite easy to crack. In fact, I wouldn't have taken the exam if my college didn’t force me to take the exam for better placements and opportunities.”

Sarika shared a similar feedback. She said, “MAT is my first attempt at any management exam and through it I aim to get into one of the good b-schools in Delhi. I never took CAT as it's very difficult and high level exam.”
