Shiksha: Hi, please tell us about yourself.
Yash: I am Yash Kaviya, I was born and brought up in Ahmedabad. After completing my schooling in Ahmedabad, I went to Delhi to pursue my under graduation at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi. Having completed my undergrad, I worked for two and a half years with a menswear e-commerce company and have previously interned with Allen Solly, Arvind, and Zilingo. Apart from that, I am extremely passionate about languages and Hindustani Classical Music. I know 9 Indian languages and have learned the Tabla and drums professionally and can play other percussion instruments too.
Q: Can I get direct admission in XLRI?
Xavier School of Management Jamshedpur does not have the provision of direct admission to the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) courses. However, as per various sources, XLRI Jamshedpur has a few seats under the Managment quota for which the institute offers direct admission. XLRI admission to most the PGDM courses is based on the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur.
Q: How can I get admission in XLRI Jamshedpur?
For XLRI admission 2025, candidates are required to apply online, through GMAT/ XAT. Candidates can apply for more than one programme at the same time. XLRI admission process includes an application process, shortlisting of candidates for GD & PI, the release of cutoff and announcement of the final list for admission. Given below is the step-wise XLRI application process 2025:
Step 1: XLRI Jamshedpur Application Process 2025
Candidates seeking admission to Xavier School of Management must apply through XAT.
Step 2: Release of Cutoff List
After submitting the application process, candidates must appear for the XAT entrance test to be eligible for XLRI admission. Soon after the declaration of XAT result, XLRI will release the admission cutoff list. Those who meet the XAT cutoff, are eligible to appear for the Personal Interview (PI) round of XLRI admission.
Step 3: Shortlisting of Candidates for GD & PI
Based on the information available in the application form and XAT scores, XLRI will shortlist the candidates for Group Discussion and Personal Interview round. Apart from XAT scores and screening of applications, XLRI also considers relevant work experience, academic background extracurricular activities while preparing the final list.
Step 4: Announcement of Final Merit List & Admission Confirmation
Based on XAT scores, GD & PI performance and other parameters, XLRI will release the merit list of selected students for final admission. Candidates whose names appear on the merit list are then required to pay the admission fee before the given timeline to confirm their admission.
Q: Are MBA admissions 2024 open at NMIMS SBM?
Yes, NMIMS SBM MBA 2024 application process is ongoing. The last date for NMAT registration is Oct 10. Interested candidates can apply by visiting the official college website. Aspirants shall ensure that they submit their application within the due date. Also, admission 2023 is open for MBA (part-time) in Social Entrepreneurship.

Shiksha: Congratulations on converting XLRI Jamshedpur! How do you feel?
Yash: I feel wonderful, although I am trying to also not get too carried away. Trying to understand myself better now, how I function, and what I need to work on.
Shiksha: What is the selection procedure at XLRI Jamshedpur?
Yash: XLRI Jamshedpur selection process consisted of three stages:
1. XAT exam
2. SOP
3. Interview
Shiksha: Which other B-Schools selection process did you appear for? How was your experience in other institutes vis a vis the institute you have converted to?
Q: How to reach XLRI Jamshedpur?
The nearest airports to Jamshedpur are Kolkata and Ranchi. The Journey will take approximately 3.5 hours to 4 hours to reach Jamshedpur from Kolkata by train and 2.5 hours to 3 hours from Ranchi by road.XLRI Campus is about 7 kms from the Tatanagar Railway Station and can safely be reached by auto - rickshaws or taxis round-the-clock at a reasonable charge of INR 120 and INR 200 respectively (approximate rates). XLRI is located near the Jubliee Park in the Circuit House Area (East). The campus has two gates - one opens to the Marine Drive and the other to CH Area. XLRI campus can be approached from either of the gates.
Q: How to apply for MBA at NMIMS SBM?
Only the aspirants who meet the eligibility requirements shall fill out the application form. NMIMS SBM MBA application procedure is broadly divided into two steps - NMAT registration and NMIMS registration. Candidates can apply through the NMIMS SBM Mumbai official website. Moreover, candidates can also refer to the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Go to the NMIMS NMAT website for registration.
Step 2: Register by entering asked information and submit it to get GMAC ID.
Step 3: Further, candidates need to complete the registration by clicking on "Complete NMIMS Registration".
Step 4: Candidates can login with GMAC ID and password to complete the registration.
Step 5: Required documents upload and application fee payment.
Q: Can I get direct admission in a PGDM course at XLRI Jamshedpur?
No, XLRI Jamshedpur does not offer direct admission to the PGDM courses. Candidates seeking admission to XLRI must have a valid score in Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT). Additionally, for PGDM (GM) course, GMAT score is also accepted. The final selection is based on GD & PI round. Q: How can I apply for IIFT Bareilly admission?
The application process for IIFT Bareilly is conducted offline, and candidates who wish to apply for admission at the Indian Institute of Fashion Technology Bareilly need to visit the campus in person. To apply, they must purchase the application form along with the college prospectus from the college campus. After filling out the form, they must submit it to the admission office of IIFT Bareilly along with all the necessary documents.

Q: Who can apply for FPM at XLRI?
Candidates with BE / BTech degree or its equivalent with at least 60% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates) obtained after completing higher secondary education, Class 12 or equivalent, followed by at least 2 years of relevant work experience are eligible to apply for XLRI FPM course. Admission to the FPM course is based on valid XAT/UGC-JRF/NET/GMAT/GRE/GATE scores.
Yash: I appeared for interviews IIMs, IIFT, and NMIMS Mumbai amongst others. I think personally, the interview at XL was one of the best, it felt like a conversation where they wanted to understand who I am as an individual. The interviewers made me feel very comfortable and warm throughout the duration of the interview.
Shiksha: Did you get help or join a coaching school to prepare for PI? When did you start your preparations for it?
Yash: I prepared for it myself. I prepared for approximately 6 months.
Shiksha: Do you think that Personal Interview requires some separate preparation apart from what you mentioned?
Yash: Yes, I think for a PI, it is really important for you to understand yourself as a person. So what I did was I used to sit by myself and ask myself any questions I could think of and would try to answer that, asking the most random questions helped me identify things about myself I wasn’t aware of. I also created a mind map using a pen and paper which allowed me to structure my thoughts, but I did not mug up specific answers to specific questions because I felt that would make my answers sound too robotic instead of natural. So I had a structure around which I could build depending on the questions asked.
Shiksha: Are there ways to handle a situation when one has no answer to a question during PI?
Yash: I think being honest helps. If you are not sure, you can tell the panelists you aren’t sure but you’d like to try to answer. And if you are completely blank, being truthful about it will reflect much better rather than saying something which is incoherent.
Shiksha: Which interview turned out to be the best one? Enlighten us about the finest one according to you.
Yash: My interview at XLRI was the best one personally. Felt like a genuine conversation wherein they wanted to understand who I was, what my interest was, and how I want to grow moving forward.
Shiksha: What about the questions which you found difficult to answer? How did you reply to those?
Yash: I was honest about it, in a couple of interviews, there were questions that I did not know the answer to, and I mentioned the same to the panelists.
Shiksha: Any tips for future aspirants?
Yash: Never ever think that one single exam is going to define you. You are much more than an exam you appear for. Though give it your best shot, always remember that you will define yourself. Always protect yourself and take utmost care of yourself.
Shiksha: What is your future plan?
Yash: I wish to work in fields where I can contribute to building positive organizational behaviors. I also want to be able to understand how people groups function and how and what we can do to make them function even better while protecting the interests of both the employer and the employee.
