Last week tips for MICAT 2016

Here are some last week tips to crack MICAT 2016:

1. Bring out your creative angles

MICAT is a primarily a test of creativity and writing skills. So one needs to focus not just on flawless writing skills but bringing out a creative angle to it. Essays can be based on current topics, deciphering a picture or statement and so on. It evaluates both your opinion or point of view and logical perspective. The essay section may also ask for a ‘for’ or ‘against’ standpoint.

In 2013, MICAT had about eight or nine pictures which included pictures of a flower, zebra, caterpillar, the Red Fort, pink dress and so on. Aspirants had to use the images for create a story.

2. Test of logic

MICAT is also the test of logic and common sense. It doesn’t matter if you are for or against a topic. It matters how you logically can you present (or deduce) your point of view.

In 2014, the institute had an essay question on the topic: ‘It is ethical to sell fairness creams.’ It had further three questions:

1. 5 points to be written in favour of the topic.

2. 5 points to be written against the topic.

3. Essay of 200 words had to be written either in favour of or against the topic. The instructions had clearly mentioned that ‘no marks would be awarded for a neutral viewpoint’.

3. Lower focus on DI and Quant

MICAT doesn’t put too much focus on mathematics or quantitative aptitude. The question paper has been set to test the creativity. So candidates just need to focus on basic and core concepts in DI and QA. There’s also all the unique psychometric test that assesses personality and characteristics.

4. Psychometric test

Know thyself! That’s a perfect way to crack this part of the test. “For the psychometric test, one can’t practice much. Just know yourself better and answer the questions truthfully. Both creativity and common sense is required,” says Jigeesha, an ex-MICAN. Candidates just need to plan properly for the exam and complete all the sections in time.

MICAT also has questions related to General Knowledge, Verbal Ability and Quant. If candidates are preparing for other MBA exams, cracking this section will be a breeze.
