Mystory@Amrendra Singh: How my college education impacted my career

I would like to share a few important things which I faced during my college life. A college life is meant not only to focus on your syllabus and to get good marks but also to participate in different extra-curricular activities that help boost our knowledge in a manner different from academics.

I was an active member of Rotaract Club-IMS Roorkee during my MBA where I organised different activities such as inter-college debate competitions, safai abhiyan, blood donation camps, to name a few. These initiatives helped me a lot in becoming familiar with people and in understanding their thoughts. In order to share our own thought process, we have to communicate effectively all the time and this boosted my spoken language skills.

Since I belonged to a rural area of Bihar and was weak in English, these activities turned out to be very useful for me, I learnt much more while doing and engaging. I also got an opportunity to work with the Jindal Group. I worked there for 2.5 years, learning the basics of handling clients and gathering information; dealing with the clients practically improved my skills further. Then I moved to Apollo Tubes as a branch head and stayed on to work there for 2.6 year. Today, I am working with the Jindal Group once again.

What I would like to reiterate is that only education insolation is not enough in learning how to deal with people. We should aim to get some practical experience and this happens best through extra-curricular. It is the latter that helps us boost our confidence and knowledge.
