Mystory@Chandan Kumar Sharma: How I handled the ups & downs in my career
I was very week in studies and never understood the importance of my books. Math and Economics were very difficult for me to understand. In standard 10, I secured only 57% marks. My father always wanted me to opt for Science, but unfortunately, due to my bad marks, I had to opt for Commerce.
I used to love studying Business Studies. I was a mediocre in Accounts, but perfect in Economics. I was taking tuition for Eco and Accounts. I was week in accounts, but used to pass because the school teacher was my tutor. All was good and I passed standard 11 and 12. However, since I belonged to a lower middle class family, there was no one who could guide me further.
I did my BCom, but after that there were days when no one use to offer me job. I always had the urge to do something different, so I tried my hand at different things. I was good in electronics and I could repair everything right from a cooking gas, to iPhone, fridge, cars, bullet, electrical wirings to AC and much more.
I made a few mistakes in life. I didn’t care about my future and did what I wanted to. I never used to listen to my dad and used to convince my mom for everything that I wanted. My selection of friends too was never right. I was always friends with people who were never concerned with studies. Later, I pursued MBA and after the course was over, I started looking for jobs, but couldn’t find one. My parents were never happy with the way my life was moving. Since I wanted to try something new, I could not settle for any job that came into my way. Finally, I gave up and returned to my native place, Ahmedabad.
When I went to Ahmedabad, I was extremely demotivated and thought that I would do whatever my dad wanted me to do. He wanted me to join the Army. I requested them to give me 7 days and if I could not get a job in a week, I would do as they said. They agreed. I appeared for interviews in 3 companies and got selected in all. I joined a company with a target based salary. I worked very hard but I could not achieve the given target. I did not lose hope and kept giving my 100 percent. I worked in the company for 2.5 years and my dedication paid off as my salary increased from 14K to around 50K.
Once when I was on a holiday, attending my sister’s marriage, I got a call from my colleague saying that all professional as well as personal accounts were hacked by the company as they suspected me of interacting personally with the clients. I got very furious and right away sent my resignation letter. When they could not find any valid proof of my disloyalty towards the company, the Director of the company called me up and asked me to join again, but I refused.
It was after this that I started freelancing and worked extremely hard to fulfill all my dreams. Today, I own two Mobile Application Development companies, am married and enjoying my life to the fullest.
