Mystory@Imran Saf: How I made my career- the challenges and successes

It was an exciting moment to embrace switching over from school uniforms to colorful youth. The reason I chose Visual Communication was to be unique and to explore the field of media in a more in-depth fashion.

Practical classes were more interesting and brought alive our mass communication theories. I worked part time as a model for movies and this too was an interesting part of my education. During my graduation I was part of Rotaract Club and a leader in NSS which gave me an exposure to social responsibility initiatives. I attended its several meetings and conferences regularly. This indeed gave me a lot of positive energy for my post-graduation and finally a career in Human Resource.

After my graduation, I received more than 200 calls for interviews in different fields. But, I paused to first question myself: What's my career goal? I also referred to many books and websites in order to further discover which field will be suitable for the knowledge that I had gained during my graduation. In fact, I asked my family, friends, class mates and network for suggestions as well. Most of the suggestions that resonated with my knowledge and personality was the field of Human Resource Management. From then on, I spent more than six months finding out about Human Resource Management after which I applied for an MBA in Human Resource Management at Madras University.

I started my HR career as a recruiter in a consulting firm where I was handling recruitment for the ITES Vertical. It was interesting to work for different clients and to meet new candidates on daily basis. Indeed, a great learning experience! Post which, I got an opportunity to work as HR Generalist where I gained experience to be in strategical HR.
