Mystory@Niketan Singh

I had chosen Commerce stream in class 11th because I had no interest in Science and Arts. I was more comfortable with commerce subjects. I was always an average student, more engaged in sports and fun. My 10th standard percentage also landed me in Commerce stream.

I did BCom from Bareilly University as it’s a Government university and it is the oldest and very reputed educational institution in Bareilly. As far as my Post Graduation is concerned, I decided to join GL Bajaj Institute of Management and Research (GLBIMR) after visiting many colleges in India like Christ University, IFIM Bangalore, Amity University, JIMS and others. But I found GLBIMR the most suitable place for me to study. Also Greater Noida is a hub for students.

I’m interested in entrepreneurship and want to start my own business after completing PGDM.

I came to GLBIMR with the intention of doing MBA but I found PGDM more attractive in terms of corporate exposure, placements, self-development and training. So, I called up my parents and with their consent I filled the form for PGDM.

How I cracked college admission

I started taking coaching classes for Management Aptitude Test (MAT) from T.I.M.E. I took classes for three months. Then I appeared for MAT exam in the month of February 2016. I got a call from almost every good college accepting MAT scores. Then I shortlisted some colleges of my choice like Amity, JIMS, KCC, Accurate, IFIM and GLBIMR. But I wanted to get in Christ University and I also went there but the seats were full. I visited the other colleges and amongst all of them I found GL Bajaj Institute of Management & Research, Greater Noida to be the best considering placement records, infrastructure, facilities, course structure and goodwill of the college.

Having made up my mind, I filled up the admission form for GLBIMR. I got a call from the college for Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.  I qualified the GD/PI rounds and finally got admission. After that I had a campus visit and was extremely excited about my Induction Programme.

My college life: classes, extra-curricular activities and more

I handle my family business with my father. It’s really difficult to manage both education and work at the same time. Since PGDM is a very rigorous training in order to make you corporate ready, it is very difficult to manage both equally well. But I’m lucky enough that my father supports me a lot. He says it’s just a matter of two years and everything will be managed. Every alternate month or so I go to my hometown and get a follow up on my business from my father, I stay there for a week and catch up on things. In my absence, my father looks after the operations of the business.  I also take regular updates on phone from my workers. My college facilitates me in this by granting my leaves.

My college experience has changed me a lot. My problem solving and time management ability have also improved a lot. Earlier I was a very reserved and shy kind of person but now I’ve totally transformed into an opposite one. I’ve become more extrovert and have started taking initiatives.

I had stage fear all through my school and graduation life but now it has reduced to a great extent, though I’m still working on my communication skills.

My learnings in college make up a huge chapter. But very briefly I would say that it has taught me management concepts, marketing concepts, consumer behaviour, conducting researches, preparing presentations and lot more which I can implement in my existing business as well as new business which I’m planning to start. It will always be less no matter how much I thank my college.
