Class X is a crucial class where all students have to finalize which stream they want to take up. One wrong choice can hamper one’s future. So every student’s parents and teachers should wisely help in deciding the stream of a student. I decided to take up Science after Class X, as I used to score good marks in Mathematics and I had interest in Science. I liked Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, due to which I took up Engineering. My keen interest in Applied Physics helped me in Engineering. I was interested in all branches of Engineering like Mechanical, Electronics and Telecommunication, Computer Science and Information Technology, but I was mostly interested in circuits, different type of networks and also in the vast telecommunication sector, so I took up Electronics and Telecommunication. Though I already had technical knowledge, I gained a lot of practical knowledge about electronics circuits, telecommunication devices in Engineering. It was very interesting but instead of taking up a job in this field I thought of gaining managerial skills which can improve my personality and decision making. I was interested in learning additional skills other than technical. Subjects like Principles of Management, Economics, and Accountancy aroused in me interest for Management. I then decided to appear in entrance exams like CAT, MAT, XAT and SNAP. For that I even took up coaching. During the coaching my interest in Management increased and I was sure I wanted to pursue it. Therefore I sincerely took these exams so that I could get admission in good college.

I practiced online and offline test material in order to get my concepts clear and manage time.

How I cracked college admission

I planned to take up Management course when I was in the final year of the Engineering. I decided to take up coaching to score well in the exam. After much research, I decided to join TIME Hyderabad. Faculty in TIME Hyderabad was very experienced and taught us the concepts of Quant, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation and English well. We were also taught time management tricks and how to approach the question paper. There are mainly three types of difficulty levels of questions- easy, medium and hard. They advised us to do the easy and moderate questions first and try the hard questions later when we have time so that we can manage time properly in exam. I chose four entrance exams - CAT, MAT, SNAP and XAT. I practiced online and offline test material in order to get my concepts clear and manage time, so that I don’t face time constrain in exam. My performance in these exam were moderate and I was able to achieve the required percentile. I got selected for next round of admission process of institutes like New Delhi Institute of Management, Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies (KIAMS), Pune through MAT and Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM) Hyderabad, Symbiosis Institute of Technical Management (SITM) and Symbiosis Centre for Information Technology (SCIT) through SNAP and I got admission in almost all the above mentioned colleges, but after a thorough research regarding the courses, infrastructure, fees structure and previous year’s placements of these colleges I came to the conclusion that KIAMS, Pune will be best institute for me and therefore I joined it.

What I gained from my college experience

The course which we are taught in our college is very useful in cooperate world. In 1st semester we have nine subjects. For each subjects we have to give presentations and do case studies. Faculty members as well as the visiting faculty are very experienced. They teach and guide us to gain proper managerial skills. Moreover there are ten representatives who help us when we face any kind of problem and also when we need some relaxation. They are, Class Representative, Academic Representative, Library Representative, Emerge Representative (entrepreneur program), Cultural Representative, Sports Representative, Mess/Hospitality Representative, Chanakya Representative (our college magazine), Placement Representative and Alumni Representative.

I like to attend almost all the classes as the teachers make them very interesting and these are really important for a strong foundation of management concepts. Of all the nine subjects I really like to attend Marketing class as I have a keen interest in Marketing and I want to take up Marketing as my specialization.

I entertain my classmates by playing musical instruments like the flute. I have played the flute in various functions in our college, also.

Our college environment is very interesting. We are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities like sports, cultural events, business quizzes and elocutions. Our faculty helps us in enhancing our skills not only in academics but also in extra-curricular activities. To conduct these activities we have various representatives and I am one of them. We have conducted many events like street play, talent show (where students showed their talents), Ganesh Chaturthi, Friendship Day and Independence Day celebrations.

We conduct these events for mainly two reasons-- one, to help students discover their hidden talents and two, for a break from the hectic campus life. I actively participate in various academic group activities like presentation, group discussion and also in the various cultural and sports events. Apart from conducting and participating in various events I entertain my classmates by playing musical instruments like the flute. I have played the flute in various functions in our college, also. This college has given me a lot.  So much that if given a chance I would like to represent my college in various inter-college management competitions. I not only want enhance my knowledge and experience but also bring more repute to my college.

Yes my college experience has definitely changed my personality. Earlier, due to my Engineering background, I had limited communication and presentation skills but after joining KIAMS, I am able to interact more and more with different people. Thanks to this college I have been able to improve my personality.
