Mystory@Sadaf Younus: How I chose my course and college

Mystory@Sadaf Younus

When I was a kid, I wanted to become a doctor but after my 10th in Science stream I realised the bitter truth that studying Science is not my cup of tea, so I opted for Commerce. My interest in Mathematics and Accounts pushed me to take up Commerce. While pursuing courses in Commerce, one can acquire the knowledge of business and trade, nature and fluctuations in the market, basics of Economics, fiscal policies, industrial policies etc. The concept of Commerce consists of a wide range of inter-disciplinary branches including Accountancy, Business Administration, E-Commerce, Finance, Economics and Marketing. Added to this, IT and Analytics work as providing an upper hand to the candidates opting for the field. Since the Indian economy is one of the fastest growing economies among the third world countries, the need for talented professionals who can contribute towards the growth of the economy is increasing and if I would be the one who could contribute even an inch to it, I would be happier that my decision and the education I received was worth it.

After my graduation, I decided to opt for MBA/PGDM because I wanted to start my own business.

After my graduation, I decided to opt for MBA/PGDM because I wanted to start my own business, sofordoing that I need to understand the strategy and policies required to start a business.

How I cracked college admission

After my graduation from Calcutta University in BCom (Honours), I decided to opt for MBA/PGDM for which I needed to prepare for entrance exams. So, I took admission in Career Launcher for preparation of CAT/MAT so that I could get proper guidance and score well in these entrances to secure my seat in one of the good Management colleges of the country. With the continuous guidance and support from my teachers and parents I prepared well and cracked the entrance exam with 94%.

After lots of search for a good B-School, I got to know about ICBM-SBE, Hyderabadfrom one of my friends. I applied there and cracked the selection process that included a Group Discussion round, a written case study and a Personal Interview round. I cleared all the three rounds and thereafter got a call that I have been selected for this college for the PGDM program.

Before taking admission into PGDM at ICBM-SBE, Hyderabad, I tried in other colleges tooand I got calls from different other institutes as well. I appeared for their entrance tests and GD-PI and also cleared those rounds but finally I chose ICBM-SBE among all, and it proved to be the right decision for me.

What I gained from my college experience

ICBM-SBE helped me a lot in grooming and developing my personality and skills. Here at ICBM I have learnt so many things which helped me build my confidence, it helped me improve my communication skills, helped me in time management which is very important in every field whether we are a doctor, an engineer or a businessman.

My college timing helps us to be punctual, which goes on to help everyone in their work field also (like going to office on time, working long hours, and adapting to varied work culture). College always encouraged us to participate in co-curricular activities, debates and many other activities like event organization (especially the fashion show in farewell and fresher’s party).

ICBM is an immense knowledge house and provides great opportunity to learn and excel. The awesome experience and the Personality Development Program sessions have played a major role in shaping my life and enabling me to think big to venture into the corporate world. I thank the entire family of ICBM for shaping my career and mentoring and grooming me into a truly professional person.

Time Management is most important part that everyone should follow to get success in life as well as in work.It helps us in managing our time effectively so that right time is allocated to the right activities. We need time management to reduce stress, save time, function effectively and have more control over our job responsibilities.

Tips for successful time management would be:

  • Making activity logs
  • Goal setting
  • Planning before performing
  • Prioritizing the work
  • Scheduling the work in a proper & timely manner

If anyone follows the above tips of time management he/she will get success in his/her life as well as work, as it is rightly said there is never a right/wrong time to do things, but there is always time to do things right.

I would say it had been wonderful being a part of ICBM family. This experience will always count.
