Noted economist Raghuram Govind Rajan is all set to become the next Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from September 5, 2013. 

At 50, he will be among the youngest to become the governor at the central bank. He formerly served as the chief of International Monetary Fund and president of the American Finance Association.

According to information (Wikipedia), currently Rajan serves as Eric J. Gleacher Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago and is a visiting professor for the World Bank, Federal Reserve Board, and Swedish Parliamentary Commission.

Rajan is known for predicting the global financial crisis in 2005 and pragmatist views on monetary policy.

He completed bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (1985) and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (1987). He has a PhD in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1991). Rajan was a gold medalist in IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad.
