Rajasthan, Maharashtra see dry spell in engineering, MBA colleges
A huge chunk of seats in engineering and MBA colleges in Rajasthan and Maharashtra are likely to go vacant this year.
All India Council for Technical Education’s (AICTE’s) has enforced a new rule, making it mandatory for technical institutes to start new academic session between August 1 and 30. Till last year, students could be admitted till October-end, thereby leading to fewer vacant seats. This year, authorities may be compelled to declare a zero session. In an attempt to avoid trouble and start the session on time, Maharashtra had even decided to skip GD-PI for MBA admissions this year.
According to latest reports, out of 5,100 MBA seats in 56 colleges of six districts in Nagpur, only 1,770 admissions have been done so far. This means about 65% (3,330) seats under Nagpur University will go vacant this year.
Some of the top colleges include: Dr Ambedkar, Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh, GS College, Tirpude, CIBMRD, Priyadarshini, CP and Berar, Ramdeobaba, Wanjari, Guru Nanak, KDK, Datta Meghe, Pandav, Central India, Real, Radhakrishnan, Renaissance, Shantiniketan, SB Jain, Kavi Kulguru (Ramtek), Sardar Patel (Gondia), and Nabira (Katol) apart from eight belonging to GH Raisoni group. Only NU's Department of Business Management filled up their quota of seats.
In Rajasthan, there are 135 engineering and 90 MBA colleges. Over 40,300 engineering seats lay vacant after the first round of counselling.
While in Maharashtra, out of the 45,747 MBA seats in the state, only 12,321 seats could be filled. In fact, 37 B-schools converted around 1921 minority seats into general seats to procure more admissions.
