Students’ Speak: Be flexible in taking up responsibilities during internship
By: Neha Rajendra Deore
What according to you is an internship? A job. An internship is a job training programme for undergraduates or for those pursuing postgraduation.
In other words, it is an official programme offered by an employer to a potential employee. Students who are doing an internship are called interns. An internship is either part-time or full-time according to a company. It can also be paid and unpaid.
By doing an internship, students can have a competitive advantage over their competitors. Experience is becoming a crucial and critical factor in the industry for jobs, everyone wants to hire an experienced employee because of the market conditions and at this stage, not everyone is ready to take the risk. An experienced person has a benefit and has an edge than a person who is not having experience. After doing a graduation or post-graduation everyone should take the opportunity to complete a period of work experience in the company. One of the main and only differences one can make is to do an internship in a good company.
Every internship has long-term benefits. Many students during their internship decide where they want to be recruited, in which company on a permanent basis in a particular sector. When the company plans to hire interns, they actually need employees. Later they hire, but when they keep an internship programme, they need to learn how to do well. It is important to make a good impression and to get to know all the requirements to get placed.
To make this work, begin from Day 1 of your internship. Show flexibility in any team, in any environment, and most importantly think and then commit. You should think always because in the corporate world time is very important, commitment to such work that you can do quickly.
What all learnings you should get from your internship
- You should be able to implement your theoretical knowledge into the practical world.
- Before doing an internship, the first thing you should think is in which field you want to intern. Your specialisation will help you to choose your career path. For instance, if you are doing internship in a finance company then you can select exactly in which field or department you want to work.
