In TANCET for Engineering, there are three sections. Part 1 consists of Engineering Mathematics, which is common to all branches. Part 2 consists of basic Engineering & Science and Part 3 consists of a chosen subject such as ECE, EEE, Mech, Civil, etc.

Type of questions asked

We should remember that in every competitive examination there will be easy, moderate as well as difficult questions that will be asked during the exam. Mostly the preference is given to moderate and difficult questions because they have to eliminate some of the candidates. But coming to statewide examinations there will be largely easy and moderate questions. By the analysis of experts, since last two years the question paper was easy to moderate. The maximum marks in both 2018 and 2019 were over 70. The question paper ranges from easy to medium level only. According to 2018 and 2019, if you get more than 70, your rank will be between 1 and 10. And coming to cut off, if the question paper is too tough, cut off might decrease. However, if the question paper is too easy, cut off might increase. In 2018 as well as in 2019 for the OC category, the cutoff ranged between 38-40.

Section-wise5 topics covered

Marking scheme

For any competitive examinations, you must and should know and it is your responsibility to know the marking scheme of the examination. Coming to the TANCET marking scheme, there are different papers for different courses in the state-level examination but same Marking scheme is followed to all the papers. TANCET consists of 100 multiple choice questions and each question carries 1 mark. Moreover, there is a negative Marking for wrong response and 1/3 mark will be deducted. If a question is left unanswered there will be no negative marking for that & no positive marks also. For answering questions you will be given OMR sheet and this is an offline mode based on pen & paper.

Expected cut- off??

The expected cutoff will be different for different categories.

  • For OC category it may range from 38-40
  • For BC category it may range from 33-36
  • For SC category it may range from 21-30
  • For ST category it may range from 19 -27
