Students' Speak: Internship at Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management
By: Anand Kumar Chaubey
The summer internship happens at the end of the first year for two months in the month of April-May, which is a compulsory part of the curriculum. The students are interviewed and evaluated in front of the concerned faculties post-internship when they submit their presentations for Summer Internship Project.
An internship is mandatory at Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, Dwarka, New Delhi. The college is very strict about the internship and placement process and has a dedicated team of faculties and students who work diligently throughout the year to get the best companies on board for the students. As the college provides specialization in PGDM in General, Finance, Research and Business Analytics and Logistics & Supply Chain Management, the summer internship opportunities are available in every domain by the companies coming on campus for the internship.
There is a campaign that happens every year at the beginning of the session named ‘OUTREACH’ to get more companies on board by the Placement Cell of the college in which newcomers are also included. In this, the newcomers are interviewed by the existing placement cell to be selected for the campaign with an aim to be a part of the placement cell in the second year. The students who get selected go through rigorous one-month training and then they go to their assigned cities across India to pitch into the companies about the college further inviting them for summer internship and placements. A dedicated Summer Internship Cell works diligently to get new companies on board every year and to maintain good relations and deliver good resources to the existing companies that come every year for both placements and internship.
The summer internship happens at the end of the first year for two months in the month of April-May, which is a compulsory part of the curriculum. The students are interviewed and evaluated in front of the concerned faculties post-internship when they submit their presentations for Summer Internship Project. The college takes full responsibility to get an internship for the students on campus so that the students do not have to look out for companies. In case if any students feel like going for an internship outside he/she needs to take prior permission with proper documentation with a reason as why they are going for that company followed by NOC from the placement department of the college.
To name a few companies, Deloitte, EY GDS, Asian Paints, Marsh, Britannia, Marico, AT Kerney and a number of startups come at the campus for the internship process and this year, around 60 companies came on campus to offer a summer internship to the students. Profile offered are mainly in the field of Risk Advisory, Portfolio Management, Insurance, Business Development, Marketing, Data Analytics, Research, and HR. Projects undertaken by the students are mainly in Valuation, Compliance, Stock Trading, Research, and Analytics.
