Students’ Speak: Sometimes closed doors can guide you towards a better way
By: Ambika Sur
Don’t think about what is no more in your hand or anything which you can’t change any more. But, being human, we keep on thinking about anything and everything which went wrong.
So, now the question is - what to do when an exam doesn’t go well?
Students prepare and appear for several exams with an aim to get professional after getting a degree from a reputed college. So, nothing can be better if we start the practice right now, right here.
As we just can’t get over a bad attempt at the exam, so it will be best if we can channelise our thoughts towards a productive way. When you realise that you have performed less than your expectations after appearing for an exam or after the declaration of result, just take a deep breath and relax for a while. Because efficient and productive thoughts will only flow in your mind once it’s relaxed.
Introspect about the exam that you have recently appeared. Focus on the questions. Think and find the reason – “why the exam went wrong?” Don’t just restrict the thoughts in your mind, also pen them down. Many facts and figures cross our minds just after the exam but it fades away after some time. So, writing them is the practice that will never let you down. It will really help you while preparing for your next step.
Now, coming to the next step, When you are aware of your lower than expected performance then it’s time to make a decision. Here at this point, you have to decide from one of the following points:
- You want to appear for the same exam again
- You want to appear for other upcoming exams if any
- You will search for good institutes accepting various ranges of score
Stick to your decision and proceed accordingly. Your decision towards the next step is very crucial for your education and career.
Just keep the following few points in your mind:
- Make sure not to repeat the same mistakes when you appear for the same exam again or some other exams.
- Identifying and working on tough topics will also help you.
- You have to practice more than before. Practice more questions and solve more mock papers.
- Do some research on the universities which are accepting students having comparatively weak scores. Good research and knowledge will help you to choose the best university according to your achieved score.
I would like to conclude the topic by sharing a small incident from my life. After completing my graduation from BSc. (Hons) Agriculture, I was planning to go for MSc. from the state government university. But unfortunately, I was not able to make it. The result was really tough to accept as few months were already wasted and the result was also not as per expectation. But at this moment of crisis, I realised that I really didn’t want to pursue MSc. I spend some more time and finally came to the decision of pursuing MBA. Now I am really happy about my decision – sometimes closed doors can guide you in a better way.
So, let’s just think positive and proceed strategically.
