A Group discussion is a technique used by corporate companies, educational institutes, and other organizations to judge the communication skills of the participant. This helps to assess the mental ability of the candidates and also the candidates can know about each other.

MNCs mainly conduct GD round for the selection of the candidates. GD means a conversation in a group on a specific topic on which every candidate expresses his/her views. The candidates can talk in the favor or against the topics. Mostly, the panel wants to assess the communication skills of the candidates through the group discussion round.

If you want to clear your group discussion round than it is necessary to improve your communication skills. Candidates must behave well in a group discussion because the panelists observe these points. The candidate’s behavior also throws light on his/her knowledge and thinking. Sometimes in a group discussion they give you controversial topics for discussion  - for example Is CAA a good initiative taken by the government?

The examiner wants to assess the mental maturity of the candidates and half of the candidates are disqualified due to their rude behavior towards their group members. The candidate must have patience and should express his/her opinion politely.

But first you must know about the topic which is given to you in the group discussion. It doesn't mean that you should know all about it but you must know the basics of the topic on which you can proceed with your further conversation. Group discussion is the best method to know about the communication skills, knowledge, understanding, and leadership of the candidate.

GD is not a big challenge if you want a job in good and reputed firms. You must know about the current topics. Sometimes, in a GD they give you a regional topic like ‘Is article 370 good or bad for Kashmir?’ If you want to clear your Group Discussion round then you must be a keen observer, have good behavior and knowledge about the given topics.
