SVIM is conducting a two-hour online session through Zoom every day and providing online course subscriptions: Brijesh
These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.
In the present scenario, when the country is locked down to fight the Coronavirus pandemic. Most of the educational institutions are creating virtual learning infrastructure and radically transforming to online education through Google Classroom, Zoom app, etc.
Last week, the Government of India also launched “Bharat Padhe Online” Campaign for improving online education in the country. A portion of the syllabus could be completed by conducting online classes. Consequently, conducting exams on time would help to maintain the flow of studies for students. Also, the students will be engaged in completing their syllabus during this lockdown.
During the lockdown period, my institute is also conducting online lectures and providing online courses subscription to all the students for learning. The institute is following a timetable to conduct online classes through Zoom application. A two-hour session is taken every day. All sessions are recorded by the institute and then uploaded on YouTube as well for future reference. Also, the institute provides online materials to the students.
The institute has also given the subscription courses like Investment and Planning, Marketing, Branding, People Management, Resource Management, Finance Planning and so on.
Due to the lockdown, many students are referring to many portals for online education and free courses and certification to make an impressive resume. In my opinion, the time of lockdown should be considered as a golden period for education as well as for gaining knowledge by reading magazines, books and other interesting material, etc.
The online classes are not more effective than classroom education, however, it is better for students than doing nothing at home. It is sufficient to cover the syllabus as designed by the institute because of the organised timetable of the online sessions. In every session, the faculties are providing work from home or assignment, so that the students use their free time in learning. Also, our institute gives the project report of every semester. This time we are doing Comprehensive Project-2 about Commodity Trading and Investment. For practical work, the institute gives us the case studies for a solution and we have to present or provide a solution during the online session.
The institute arranges group discussion in the online sessions so that the students could participate. Also, everyone has to speak a few words on the topic provided by the teacher, which is an effective way of online learning. However, the one negative impact of online classes is that we cannot calculate the numerical problems online or also show our work to our faculties.
In India, most of the institutes are using the online applications and websites for teaching to ensure that there is no obstacle in education for students.

Knowing your priorities can help you decide which school, School of Petroleum Management (SoM) or S.V. Institute of Management (SVIM), is better. SoM strengths are NIRF #94 MBA ranking (India), good industry connections, specialisation in energy and infrastructure management, and reasonable prices.
