This is what one should do after MAT exam
By: Neha Dash
After the exam, prepare for GD and PI rounds as well as appear for upcoming entrance exams of other colleges to ensure that every available option is explored completely.
After taking the MAT exam, sit back and relax your mind. I did the same after appearing for MAT. I would also suggest not letting go of your practising habit easily as you might have to appear for the other entrance exams. One should never rely on just only one entrance exam in a year. After giving the entrance test, one would have the idea whether they would be able to crack it or not. If yes, then you are one step closer to your target.
The best thing one could do is to go through different current affair topics and prepare for GD and PI. Make notes of all the topics and key points. Keep all the key points handy that would help in cracking the Group Discussion. Detailed knowledge of the subject with specific facts and figures is not mandatory, however, the basic details on the subject would be sufficient. To make the speech more interesting, one could start with a quote or a short and simple story/incident related to the subject.
One should work on their speaking skills. Talk to the mirror in English, record your voice and improve the areas where required. Practise reading English newspapers and magazines, watch news and interviews to get a wider perspective on the issues. Choose magazines which are rich in content and not advertisements. Magazines also have columns supporting a specific university, etc. Work on enhancing social as well as communication skills.
One should have a good vocabulary, fluency in the language and a decent accent. I rehearsed in the real group conversation. You could sit with a group of friends to pick a subject for discussion and start the GD. Practise as much as possible to crack the GD with ease.
Also, analyse different answer sets of different years. This would help you in assessing your scores as well as finding out answers of your practised sets. Most importantly, while you prepare for a particular college, make sure you have brief information about the college beforehand to ensure that any important information is not missed. Go through the alumni interviews and read about the faculties, college activities, and so on as sometimes you are asked about the college in the personal interviews. The last thing to do is, work on personality development by watching YouTube videos and taking personality tests online.
