Quick Tips to Ace TISS PI 2023

  1. Know why you have selected this course: When you opt for a course, it is a given that you have a basic idea about its structure, syllabus and possibilities. If you have opted for HRM and LR course, it is expected from you that you have a genuine interest in Human Resource Management and Labour Laws and you are keen to understand its real-world application. To start with, you can visit TISS website to understand the basic outline of the course. You should also refer to Google, Research papers, Wiki, magazine, etc. to gather more information about your course.
  1. Be yourself, don’t pretend: The panellists at TISS are seasoned professionals who are very observant. It is in your best interest to be as honest as possible while answering questions. TISS is not your regular B-school where you are supposed to be very polished. The panellists may take up an HR case study and create a situation where you will be asked to respond to it. It is not essential that you answer everything and the interviewers are rather keen to know how you respond to the situation they created.
  2. Know your profile in and out: It is most likely that the interviewer would ask you about your profile (if you are working) or your previous academic record. You will be asked to correlate your work or your course content with the programme that you are planning to pursue. Be prepared for multiple ‘Whys’. You may be asked, “Why MA in HRM and LL?”  Your response is very likely to be followed by another why. This will help the panellists dig deeper into your personality in order to ascertain whether you are fit for the particular course.
  3. General Awareness: TISS lays special emphasis on General Awareness of the candidate. It is important for every aspirant to go through the important events in India’s social, cultural, political and economic history thoroughly and read up on prominent issues affecting the country as a whole. For this, candidates should make it a habit to read newspapers and important current affairs magazines regularly. One need not be an expert on a particular subject but they should be informed enough to start a conversation.
  4. Leave strategic loose ends: The Interview panel may very well ask you about your hobbies and things you have done apart from your professional work and academic records. Let’s say you have a passion for a particular dance form then do thorough research about its history and cultural significance. You are expected to be aware of its current state and whether it is getting more popular or sinking into obscurity. You can strategically take the panel to a point where they are prompted to ask more questions on something that you have already worked on.
