Section I:  Verbal Reasoning

This section comprised 30 questions, out of which 10 were RC questions (2 passages). Of the 10 RC questions, five were easy, five were of moderate difficulty. One of the RC passages was about 350 words long (Negative Impact of Climate Change on Women) while the other was 400 words long (Value of Socialization through Sports and Importance of Emotions in Sports). Vocabulary and Grammar questions formed a bulk of this section. Most of the questions in this section were of easy difficulty level. Overall, this section was similar to the last year’s test.

Q:   Can I do MBA from TISS Mumbai?

A:

The Executive Post Graduate Diploma (EPGD) at TISS Mumbai serves as a viable alternative to their MBA program, featuring a comparable structure and format, and it offers a total of 35 seats, with eligibility requiring a minimum of three years of work experience. Shortlisting for the TISS Mumbai MBA program is based on performance in the TISSNET MBA 2023 examination. Additionally, there are specific enrollment numbers for other EPGD programs: 50 for Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management, 35 for Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Organization Development and Change, and 30 for Executive Postgraduate Diploma in Climate and Disaster Risk Assessments for Sustainability.

 

Q:   Is TISS an MBA entrance exam?

A:

No, TISS is the name of University i.e., Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The exam conducted for the admission to the postgraduate programmes is called TISSNET. EPGDODC is a 14-months programme which is equivalent to the MBA programme at TISS. TISSNET (TISS National Entrance Test) is a university level entrance exam conducted by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences for admission to PG programme. Candidates must prepare according to the TISSNET syllabus and study according to the TISSNET Pattern.

Q:   Does TISS Mumbai accept CAT score?

A:

No, TISS Mumbai doesn't accept Common Admission Test or CAT for admission to its MBA programme. However, the institute does accepts The Central University Entrance Test (Postgraduate) or CUET PG for admission. Candidates are therefore required to register for the CUET PG exam before applying for the MBA programme at TISS Mumbai. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai does not offer an MBA programme. However, it does offer similar programme in Management, Including MA in Human Resource Management and Labour Relations, Social Entrepreneurship, Globalization and Labor, etc.

A good score for this section would be 21-23 and suggested time allocation for this section would have been  35-40 minutes.

Section II: Mathematical and Logical Reasoning 

There were 30 questions in the section, out of which 16 questions were on Mathematics, 5 were on Logical Reasoning and 9 questions were on Data Interpretation. The Mathematics section was dominated by 5 Arithmetic questions and 5 Modern Math questions, followed by 3 questions on Geometry and 3 questions on Numbers. The Logical Reasoning questions were on Puzzles, Directions, Clocks and Calendars. There were 3 DI sets of 3 questions each. A DI set(based on multiple bar graphs) was very easy and the remaining two sets were calculation intensive. Overall, this section was a bit difficult as compared to last year’s test.

By allotting 35-40 minutes to this area, one should have ideally solved at least 24-26 questions correctly and marked the answers to the remaining, as there was no negative marking.A good score for this section would be 20-22

Section III: General Awareness

This section comprised 40 questions, each carrying 1 mark. There were 11 Static GK  questions and 29 current affairs questions. There were around 16 questions on international affairs and 21 were related to national events. 3 questions were related to miscellaneous topics (economics, environmental science, etc). About 12-14 questions were easy, 15-17 were medium and 9-10 were difficult. This section was similar compared to last year’s GK section.

A:

Candidates who qualify for the below-listed conditions are eligible for MA in Human Resource Management and Labour Relations, Social Entrepreneurship, Globalization, and Labor,.etc., at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai: 

  •  Candidates must have a bachelor's degree from a recognised University.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of school education.
  • Finally, candidates must complete the e Central University Entrance Test (Postgraduate) or NTA CUET PG.

Preparation Strategy Out of the total time of 100 minutes, you should spend 25-30 minutes to solve this section in TISSNET. Since there is no negative marking, you should target an attempt of 26-28 questions. Also, to score well, you should increase your reading speed and concentration over long time periods. To prepare for Verbal Ability, stick to the rule of concepts first and practice later. Study English grammar to understand the concepts. Then practice a number of sample questions of different kinds to gain confidence, speed and accuracy. Develop the habit of reading from early stages. Improve verbal communication skills Think before speaking. Use concise language. Understand your audience. Be mindful of your tone. Pay attention to your body language. Employ active listening. Speak with confidence. Show your authentic self.

Q:   Which are the important topics for English Proficiency for TISSNET preparation?

A:
Some of the important topics that are covered under English proficiency syllabus are: Word Choice/Sentence Correction, Odd one out, Analogies, Synonyms & Antonyms, Grammar, Verbal reasoning and Reading comprehension. As per the previous year question paper analysis, some of the questions that can be expected from the topics mentions above includes: word substitute in a sentence, right usage of word in fill in the blanks, right usage of word in match the following, fill in the blanks with homophones/idioms, matching and error spotting- words/ grammar/punctuation, short and long reading comprehension. The type of questions asked in Reading Comprehension passage are- strengths and weakness, purpose of the passage, assumption and supporting statements, passage based questions, author's point of view, inference and conclusion, main idea of the passage.

Q:   How hard is it to get into TISS MA HRM?

A:

Admission to TISS's MA HRM programme is competitive and challenging due to the institute's esteemed reputation and rigorous selection process. Candidates must undergo a series of stages, including the TISSNET entrance exam, group discussion, and personal interviews. TISSNET evaluates candidates' analytical, logical reasoning, and English proficiency skills. Shortlisted candidates proceed to the group discussion, where their communication, critical thinking, and presentation abilities are assessed. Those who qualify move on to the personal interview, during which the panel evaluates factors such as academic background, work experience, motivation, and understanding of HRM concepts. With a limited number of seats and a large applicant pool, competition for admission to the MA HRM programme at TISS is intense. A score of 18-20 would be a good benchmark. Attempting all GA questions would not have taken more than 15-20 minutes.
