MBA Admission: Key Points
Before applying to any MBA institute, you must keep the following in mind:
- Cut off percentile: Each institute selects candidates on the basis of CAT cut off percentile (or other MBA entrance exams) fixed for that particular year. Check the 'minimum cut off percentile required' of your target institutes and apply only if you have the qualifying score. If you don't possess the qualifying score and you still apply, your application will be rejected.
- Admission process: The admission process usually includes screening of candidates on the basis of qualifying cut off marks and Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The candidates must go through the admission process of each institute and must be present in person for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
- Course fee: MBA/PGDM programme is an expensive course. So you must check whether you can afford the course in a particular institute. Students from financially weak background can target government institutes like FMS, Delhi or Delhi School of Economics as course fee of government and government-aided institutes is less. private institutes provide scholarships to meritorious students and student loan assistance.
- Pedagogy and faculty: For good educational experience and training, it is very important that you get the best during the two years of your MBA/PGDM programme. Check college reviews, talk to alumni, research about faculty members, before selecting a B-school.
- Placements: The ultimate aim of earning an MBA degree is a good start to your career. Campus placement is thus a necessity. Check the past placement record of the college you are targeting. Read all about companies visiting the campus, salary packages offered and get the information vetted by alumni.
- Infrastructure: Good infrastructure of the institute is very important for a student's overall development. Theory classes, practical experiences, extra-curricular activities like sport, public speaking, art, etc contribute to making of a successful manager.
