Best Production Design: The Great Gatsby – Catherine Martin (Production Design); Beverley Dunn (Set Decoration)

Best Cinematography: Gravity – Emmanuel Lubezki

Best Film Editing: Gravity – Alfonso Cuarón and Mark Sanger

Best Visual Effects: Gravity – Tim Webber, Chris Lawrence, Dave Shirk, and Neil Corbould

The award ceremony was well appreciated by all but the most talked about aspect of the event was the Ellen DeGeneres selfie which featured Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie, Kevin Spacey, Meryl Streep, Jared Leto, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and Lupita Nyong'o. The selfie received more than a million retweets in a matter of just 45 minutes.

Robin Williams Dead

Hollywood actor and comedian, Robin Williams committed suicide in his home in California on August 11, 2014. Sources shared that he was battling depression and ended his life by hanging himself with a belt. No suicide note was found near his body.

Marriages in Hollywood

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt get married: The famous couple of Hollywood ended the – will they won’t they question on August 23, when they married in a private ceremony in the South of France. Angelina wore an Atelier Versace dress wherein her veil contained drawings made by her children. Brangelina’s wedding was attended by only 20 guests.

George Clooney gets married: Just like Brangelina, George Clooney also exchanged vows with Amal Alamuddin, a London Lawyer in a small ceremony in Venice, Italy.

Big Movie Releases

One of the widely appreciated movies of 2014 was Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan. The movie starred Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine and Mackenzie Foy. The movie was written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan.

The movie was made at a budget of $165 million and till date it has earned $944,129,713.

Another extremely popular film which received widespread critical and commercial success was – The Lego Movie. This film was co-written and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The movie was made at a budget of $60 million and it earned $468.1 million.

‘Serial’ Podcast Series

First released in October 2014, Serial (podcast) is a spin-off of – This American Life which is a radio programme. Serial is a podcast series which covers non-fiction stories which spread over multiple episodes. The episodes are available on a weekly basis and vary in length.

This podcast series ranked number one on iTunes even before its debut. The podcast series, Serial, is created and hosted by Sarah Koenig and is co-produced by producers of This American Life, Julie Snyder  and Sarah Koenig.
