Every year in India, lakhs of MBA aspirants strive to make it to the best business schools in India. But candidates with low academics often fail to make it to the top MBA colleges despite scoring well in MBA entrance exams like CAT, XAT, and GMAT. The primary reason behind this is that top MBA institutes not only consider the candidate’s entrance exam score but their overall performance in academics to choose the best candidates from among a pool of lakhs of aspirants.
Accept it or not, if you have a low academic portfolio comprising the marks of Matriculation (class 10th), Intermediate (class 12th) and Graduation, chances are that you won’t be getting a call from the top B-schools of India. However, there are many institutes which consider candidates with 70-80 per cent marks for admission. Having a good profile in extra-curricular activities make up for low marks. You just need to crack their entrance exam with high scores. After securing at par rank or percentile, you can secure yourself a seat in some decent MBA colleges.

The criteria which means a lot in MBA admission after entrance is Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) scores. Business schools assess the analytical and leadership qualities of candidates on the basis of their performance in GD/PI. GD is conducted so as to judge your leadership skills. On the other hand, PI is conducted to test your interpersonal skills. If you perform well in these rounds you may get admission even if you have low academic scores. Thus, you need to work a lot on this particular section, not only in the entrance exams.
