XAT 2016: Sample paper revealing new test pattern released
Earlier this month, XAT 2016 officials announced a host of new changes in the exam pattern. The changes were revealed on the official website.
Now, XAT officials have released the 'First Page' of the examination / test booklet.
As expected, the test consists of sections:

XAT 2016 exam will be held on January 3, 2016. The last date to apply for the same is December 10, 2015. View XAT 2016 important dates

This section has three parts:

Part II
This section has two parts in the following order:

General Knowledge: 25 questions (Time allotted: 35 minutes)

Scores in General Knowledge section will be used at the time of final selection and not for shortlisting candidates for interview/GD.
XAT 2016 Test Duration
The total time to complete the Part 1 (Sections A, B, C) and General knowledge is 210 minutes.
XAT 2016 Test Marks / Marking Scheme
Further elaborating on test and marking scheme, XAT officials stated:

All questions carry EQUAL marks.

ONE FOURTH OF A MARK 'may be' deducted for each wrong answer.

Leaving a question UNATTEMPTED may result in a DEDUCTION OF 0.05 MARK. However, this deduction will not be applicable for a MAXIMUM OF 13 UNATTEMPTED QUESTIONS.

Each question has five alternatives (5 MCQ options).

All answers are to be marked only on the (OMR) answer sheet. Only BLUE or BLACK BALL-POINT PEN has to be used for marking answers on the OMR answer sheet.
XAT 2016 pattern changes
XAT had announced some important changes in the exam pattern. Let's take a quick highlight on the changes:

In the main question paper (Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation sections), the total number of questions has been brought down to 78.

Candidates will have 170 minutes to answer the main question paper (Part 1). Earlier, the total time for objective part of the test was 150 minutes. XAT 2016 syllabus

In order to encourage students attempt more questions with accuracy, XAT 2016 question paper has been created in such a manner that that the top hundred students will be able to complete the test within 170 minutes. The idea behind this is to reduce the low range of scores and encourage good students to do well.

In XAT 2016, aspirants have a choice of not attempting 13 questions. Beyond this, any non-attempted question will carry a negative mark of 0.05 marks per question (as mentioned above in marking pattern).

Number of questions in GK section has been reduced to 25, which candidates need to attempt in 35 minutes.

There will be no negative marking in GK section.
