XAT 2016: Test Timings likely to increase by 30 minutes
XAT 2016 has introduced an interesting new change this year. The exam duration has increased by 30 minutes. In other words, test-takers will now get three hour and thirty minutes (210 minutes) to attempt the paper.
Change in duration of XAT 2016
Till last year the exam used to take place for three hours i.e. from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. But this year the exam will be taking place from 10:00 am till 1:30 pm. The official website of XAT 2016 has announced the timings under important dates section. As per last year’s test pattern, the exam was divided into two parts- main exam and GK & essay writing. Aspirants were given 140-150 minutes to write the exam. Last 30-40 minutes were dedicated for GK and Essay writing test. No information on division of the exam or new test pattern has been made as of now.
Change in application process
However, no other major changes have been observed except for little changes in the application process. The steps of application process are not exact same as the last year. Last year applicants were to upload their scanned photograph and signature only after the payment of fee in any of the available modes. This year, application fee of Rs 1500 for all candidates can be made only after filling all the information on the application form and uploading of scanned photograph and signature.

Test pattern for XAT 2016
The test pattern and syllabus of the exam are same. There are five sections in the exam namely:
- Quantitative Ability
- English Language & Logical Reasoning
- Decision Making
- GK
- Essay
The detailed syllabus can be read here. The official announcement of division of time between the four sections is awaited from the authorities of XAT 2016. It is expected that the time devoted to GK and essay will remain the same while time to answer the MCQs may increase. But it is preferred not to assume anything unless XAT 2016 authorities announces it.
