103 medical graduates commissioned into Armed Forces Medical Services
A total of 103 medical graduates has been commissioned into the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) this year, during a commissioning ceremony held at AFMC recently.
A total of 103 medical graduates has been commissioned into the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) during a commissioning ceremony held at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune.
Lt Gen R S Grewal graced the event as the chief guest, under the overall supervision of Lt Gen Nardeep Naithani, Director and Commandant of the AFMC.
As per the statement released by AFMC, in the winter session exam of 2019, a total of 134 students, including five foreign nationals, had appeared for the final MBBS examination. Out of which 103 cadets have been commissioned into AFMC. 80 medical cadets have been commissioned into Army, 12 in Air Force and 11 into Navy.
This year, the parade was commanded by Medical Cadet (Lieutenant) Akhil Mathew of B3 batch. 83 male officers and 20 female officers have joined AFMS this year.
The ceremony was followed by the academic awards presentation by Lt Gen R S Grewal. He also recognized outstanding achievements in academics and all-round performance of medical cadets. This year, the prestigious ‘President's Gold Medal’ was awarded to medical cadet flying officer Shantanu Khanna. ‘Kalinga Trophy’ and Maj Gen NDP Karani Trophy was awarded to medical cadet M Sri Saran.
AFMC has been consistently rated among the top medical education institutions in the country. It was established on 1st May 1948 through the merger of several defence medical units on the initiative of the BC Roy Committee. Situated in Pune, the college is administered by the country's armed forces.
In the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) examinations in the 2019 winter session, the AFMC students have scored a pass percentage of 99.25% in the final MBBS.
