31000 MBBS, 24000 PG Medical Seats added in India over the past 6 years: PM Modi
During the event, PM Modi laid emphasis on the corona vaccine, the building of hospitals in the country, and adding MBBS and PG Medical seats in India over the past 6 years to enhance the medical strength of the nation.
AIIMS Rajkot: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of AIIMS Rajkot in Gujarat via video conferencing today, i.e. December 31. Considering the ongoing pandemic situation, the event was organized via virtual mode. During the event, PM Modi laid emphasis on the corona vaccine, the building of hospitals in the country, and adding MBBS and PG Medical seats in India over the past 6 years to enhance the medical strength of the nation. While speaking at the video conference, the PM said, “In the last six years, 31,000 new seats have been added in MBBS & 24,000 new seats have been added in post-graduate courses. India is moving towards wholesome changes in the health sector.”
The Prime Minister also made the announcement of developing around twenty super-specialty hospitals across the country and updated about the work of new AIIMS that is moving in full swing. Talking further he added that the quality of education will improve with the formation of the National Medical Commission, which has replaced the Medical Council of India on September 25, 2020. The National Medical Commission grants recognition of medical qualifications, gives accreditation to medical schools, grants registration to medical practitioners, and monitors medical practice, and assesses the medical infrastructure in India.
According to the media reports, 201 acres of land was allotted for the AIIMS Rajkot project. The project which is expected to be completed by mid of 2022 will be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 1195 crores. The state-of-the-art 750-bed hospital will also have a 30-bed AAYUSH block. 125 MBBS seats and 60 nursing seats will also be introduced at the AIIMS.
