AIIMS 2020 Exam Day Guidelines: COVID-19 and Social Distancing

The AII India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is set to conduct the entrance tests for this season on June 11. However, this year AIIMS exam day will not be like the past years. Owing to the spread of novel coronavirus in India, the institute has put a set of guidelines in place. These AIIMS exam day guidelines will be applicable to all the candidates who are going to appear for the following entrance examinations:
- AIIMS PG
- AIIMS DM/MCh/MD(HA)
- AIIMS BSc (Post-Basic)
- AIIMS MSc Nursing
- AIIMS Fellowship Programmes
Many students are curious as to what will happen on the exam day. The fear of COVID-19 and the associated stigma has caused additional pressure on the test-takers. To assure the candidates and take the burden off their shoulder, AIIMS Delhi has released a notification listing all the precautions that the authorities will take on the exam day. The notification states that AIIMS will conduct the examination without compromising on the safety of the students, while maintaining the standards and sanctity of the examination. The measures that will be deployed on the AIIMS exam day, in view of the COVID-19 crisis, are stated below.

Exam City
The number of exam cities has been increased to 150, from the original 68. The examination for all the courses mentioned above will be conducted across these 150 centres. The institute has tried to allocate nearest cities as test centres to all the students appearing for AIIMS exam.
Admit Card
AIIMS admit card contains a declaration for COVID-19 to ensure that proper safety measures can be followed in either scenario. They must fill the declaration before reporting to the AIIMS exam centre. Candidates must also note that the declaration will not prevent them from attempting the examination. However, the institute will follow the guidelines that have been laid by the Central/State government with respect to COVID-19 patients.
AIIMS 2020 admit card will also contain a barcode to facilitate a ‘touch-free’ entry into the examination hall.
Social Distancing and Hygiene
- Candidates will receive an email regarding their entry time. They are required to report to the exam centre within the duration that has been mentioned in this email.
- They will then have to scan the barcode present on the AIIMS admit card. Scanning of this code will reveal details of the lab/exam hall that has been allotted to the candidate.
- Candidates are required to follow the basic hand hygiene process (sanitisation/hand wash) after upon completion of every stage.
- They will be provided with a three-ply surgical mask at the entry gate after hand sanitisation. They are required to wear the mask at all times.
- They will have to sanitise their left thumb both before and after marking their attendance. The authorities will do their best to avoid overcrowding during this process.
- Candidates do not have to carry a photograph with them on the exam day. However, they still have to bring a valid photo ID proof to the exam centre.
- In the examination hall, candidates will sit at least six feet apart from each other. The seating plan shall be in accordance with the government guidelines.
- The exam centre shall be sanitised a day before the AIIMS 2020 exam. This will include the chair, desk, keyboard, mouse, and other components on the seat that will be allotted to the candidates.
- All the washrooms will also be sanitised a day before the examination.
- Candidates will be provided bottled drinking water on the exam day. However, they must take due precautions while consuming it, and also while disposing of the bottle.
- Candidates will have to wait for the instructions of the invigilator to leave the exam centre. They will have to follow a staggered method of exit also.
- Candidates must drop their AIIMS 2020 admit cards in the ballot-type boxes placed at the exit of the exam centres.
- The exam centres will be monitored with the help of live streaming and CCTV cameras.
