Q. How do you feel about the being AIIMS MBBS topper? Did you expect it?
I am not feeling anything as of now. I am so numb and shocked. The feeling is yet to sink. I never expected this to happen. I always thought I would get a good medical college but this is like a dream come true. Getting into AIIMS had been a dream for me. And I knew not all dreams come true. So, I never expected this to happen.
My parents are still in a state of shock. For them, it’s too good to be true. I am trying to let the feeling sink in.
Q. Which board have you studied under? Which school have you studied in?
I am a CBSE board student and studied from Garima Vidya Vihar.
Q. How long have you been preparing? And what was your study plan like for AIIMS MBBS 2017? What is the minimum time frame needed to prepare for AIIMS MBBS?
I prepared for two years – Class 11th and 12th. I went to Allen Career Institute and trusted my teachers blindly. I thoroughly studied everything they asked me to. All the test papers which were given to us, I stuck to it.
Talking about the minimum time frame required, I guess it depends on ones IQ. People with a good IQ do not need a lot of time to crack an exam like this. But, people with a lower IQ will require a lot of time to prepare and get through the exam. So, it depends on person to person.
I never had a time frame to prepare. I never kept time as one of the factors to crack the exam. I just studied in the flow.
Q. How was the preparation for AIIMS MBBS and other medical entrances like NEET(UG)?
There indeed are some differences between the preparation strategy of AIIMS MBBS and exams like NEET(UG). In AIIMS MBBS, the syllabus of physics is not difficult but rather broad. The theoretical aspect(application based questions) of this exam is much bigger than other entrance exams. So, when the topics are broad, you need to study more.
Q. What did you do to improve your weak areas?
I used to refer to various books and solve a lot of objective as well as theoretical questions to improve my weak areas.
Q. What’s your exact score?
I am yet to get the score as its yet to be released. As of now, only the rank wise results have been declared. The detailed score card is yet to be declared.
Q. Have you taken any other exam besides AIIMS MBBS?
I have appeared for JIPMER and NEET(UG). I secured an AIR 35 in JIMPER. NEET(UG) 2017 results are still awaited.
Q. Did you take coaching? Do you think coaching is required to crack AIIMS?
Yes I did take my coaching from Allen Career Institute, Kota. I definitely think that coaching is very important to prepare for such national level exams. You know, it’s a like specialisation kind of a thing. When you go to school, you prepare for Board exams and not exams like these. You need people who specialize in that particular thing.
Coaching institutes have been preparing students for a long time and thus, they are specialists in that area. They know what the exam and paper is all about. So, that becomes important and plays an important role in ones’ success.
Q. Did you take up mock tests and sample papers? Do you think to practicing from previous year question papers help and how?
Yes. I did take up mock tests and sample papers from Allen. My teachers helped me get materials from other coaching institutes as well.
Previous year question papers are extremely important. You get an idea about what kind of questions would be asked in the exam.
Q. Any important books you would like to suggest for future aspirants?
Firstly, NCERT is very important. Generally, what happens in medical is that students study only Biology from NCERT. But, NCERT for Physics and Chemistry is equally important. One should read it thoroughly which means reading the book really well and then solve all the questions given in the book too.
Besides NCERT, students take also read HC Verma and Resnick Halliday for Physics.
Q. Which are the top medical institutes you are vying for?
AIIMS is my dream destination. If for some reason, I don’t get through this institute, I would consider JIPMER or MAMC (Maulana Azad Medical College).
Q. Any tips for aspirants who would be appearing for the exam next year?
Do hard-work, trust your teachers, believe in yourself. Paper may be tough or may be easy, remain calm while appearing for the paper. The score matters. Knowledge matters but not in the exam. They are not judging you on your knowledge but how much score you can acquire in the paper. So, prepare for the paper and not for the knowledge.
Q. Which specialisation do you wish to pursue at the UG and PG level?
I have a certain inclination towards Neuro-surgery. So, I guess I would opt for that.
Q. What were your marks in 12th boards? How did it help you prepare for AIIMS MBBS?
I got 91.2% in my CBSE Class 12th Board results. Though I never prepared for it.
I don’t really think it helped. While preparing for my board exams, I got deviated from my medical exam preparations. However, for PCB, when you revise from the NCERT books, it helps.
It can prove to be burden a lot of times.
Q. Tell us something about your family.
I belong to a joint family. My father is a businessman and he runs a publishing house. My mother is a teacher and I have a younger brother who is Class 7th.
Q. What are your future plans?
I haven’t thought much about it. But, after PG, I would like to do something that gives me utter satisfaction. Something that makes me feel good.
Q. Tell us about your yourself and hobbies.
I like playing games and various kind of sports including basketball. Playing games is my childhood hobby and I am extremely fond of it. When I was in Class 10th, I used to play PSPs and Xbox. But in Class 11th and 12th, I had to give it up. However, to de-stress myself, I used it to play games for around 10 or 20 mins a day just to take a break from studying.
AIIMS MBBS 2017 results got declared on June 15.
