HC Directs NTA to Reconduct NEET 2021 for 2 Candidates
The Bombay High Court has directed NTA to reconduct NEET 2021 for two candidates who had received mismatching test booklets and answer sheets as a result of negligence on part of the invigilators. Vaishnavi Bhopale and Abhishek Kapse, two NEET 2021 candidates from Solapur district of Maharashtra had filed petition in the HC on September 24.
The division bench of justice RD Dhanuka and justice Abhay Ahuja directed NTA to give 48 hours advance notice to the candidates about the date and exam centre of the retest. They also directed NTA to declare the petitioners’ NEET 2021 results in two weeks.
According to the candidates, their exam centre was at Shree Swami Narayan Gurukul International School, Solapur. The invigilators started distributing the NEET 2021 question paper booklet and answer sheets five minutes late and mixed up the question paper and answer booklet codes. While Bhopale was given a test booklet of Code 04 and an answer sheet of Code P4, Kapse got test booklet of Code P4 and an answer sheet of Code 04. Even after pointing it out, the invigilators did not rectify the error and forced them to continue with their tests and threatened of taking action against them for creating a disturbance in the exam hall.
Their counsel, advocate Pooja Thorat, pointed out that clause 7 of the Test Booklet Code for NEET mandates the invigilator to rectify the mistake and provide the correct test booklet and answer sheet to the student concerned in such a situation.
According to Advocate Thorat, the school and its principal admitted the mix-up to NTA officials, stating that it was an unintended mistake and requested NTA to help those two candidates.
On the other hand, NTA’s counsel Advocate Rui Rodrigues informed that the exam conducting authority was unable to find a solution to the petitioner’s problem, prompting HC to order a re-examination of the petitioners.
