COVID-19: MCI releases advisory for final year PG students

The Medical Council of India has released an advisory for all final year postgraduate medical students around the country regarding the health crisis in the nation due to coronavirus outbreak.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has released a notification for all final year postgraduate (PG) medical students around the country keeping in mind the ongoing crisis in the country due to novel coronavirus.

As per the notice released by MCI, the final year exams for all postgraduate courses - Diploma, Medicine, and Master of Science- have been delayed in wake of coronavirus lockdown. It also mentioned that the counselling for students seeking admission in postgraduate courses will also be delayed in all the medical colleges, universities around the country.

Due to this pandemic outbreak in our nation, the new academic session for postgraduate students seeking admission will also be delayed, the notification added.

The MCI has also directed all the medical colleges and Universities to finish the final exam exercise as soon as the situation become better for holding exams. It has also advised them to continue the services of the postgraduate residents in handling the COVID-19 pandemic till the fresh batch arrives on the campus. This is done to avoid any shortage of hands in dealing with the number of patients arriving at the medical colleges.

All medical institutions whether the private, central, state-funded should continue to provide accommodation to all final year, post-graduate students, during this lockdown period. The payment of stipend to these students should be done on time and should be continued as their work has been extended too. No institute can avoid the above facility to any student. If done, strict action will be taken in this regard, the notification said.
