The Odisha government decided to engage 1,620 AYUSH personnel including doctors, post-graduate and under-graduate students in the battle against coronavirus spread in the state.

The Odisha government decided to engage 1,620 AYUSH personnel including doctors, post-graduate and under-graduate students in the battle against coronavirus spread in the state. According to the official reports, on April 8, the government stated that the students who are pursuing their undergraduate and postgraduate courses will be involved in the fight to contain the COVID-19 spread.

The Health and Family Welfare Secretary NB Dhal, in a letter to all District Ayurveda Medical Officers and District Homeopathic Medical Officer stated that all the 1,620 personnel will be imparted required training and skills to deal with patients infected with the contagious COVID-19 virus.

Mr Dhal also added that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is developing training material for AYUSH personnel. In a recent tweet regarding involving MBBS student in the battle against the virus spread, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare tweeted, ‘To empower health services for #COVID19 containment, massive training is being imparted to MBBS students, Faculties, Health Department Officials, District and Block level Master Trainers across #Odisha.’

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state currently is 44. Of them, two people recovered and one died. According to the latest reports, the state government already trained around 5,000 MBBS and post-graduate students of three state-run medical colleges and master trainers.

Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced that all the schools and educational institutions around the state will continue to remain shut until June 17, 2020, amid the coronavirus lockdown. The state decided to extend the lockdown until April 30 and advised the centre to follow in order to contain the virus spread in the country.
