JIPMER Issues Instructions for Candidates Joining the Institute, Mandatory Quarantine of 8 Days
To prevent the spread of novel coronavirus on their campus, JIPMER Puducherry has issued a set of guidelines for the candidates newly admitted to the institute. Know the dos and don’ts for reporting at JIPMER during COVID times here.
The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has released a set of guidelines for the students who will join the institute post the admission process for MD, MS, PDF and PDCC courses. According to the latest notification released by JIPMER, all candidates residing outside Puducherry who will be reporting to the institute will have to be in a mandatory quarantine for 8-10 days. However, this rule is not applicable for the students residing in Puducherry and they will have to join their duties immediately from the day of reporting.

Candidates must note that, according to the current rules, every person entering the UT of Puducherry has to be in a mandatory quarantine for 14 days. They must also note that no hotels/private accommodations have be approved as quarantine facilities in Puducherry. Therefore, all candidates are advised to report alone and not bring their parents/relatives to Puducherry.

According to the notification, every candidate has to follow the protocol, summarised below, before reporting to the respective JIPMER campus.
Steps to be followed before reporting to the JIPMER campus
- Obtain an e-pass from the Government of Puducherry
- Book tickets such that they arrive on the day of reporting only
- No candidate should report a day early as JIPMER Puducherry will not make arrangements for their stay in such cases
- Candidates must inform about their travel plans to the concerned faculty member at JIPMER at least a week in advance
- The travel details must include details such as mode of travel, city of departure and date/time of arrival in Puducherry
- They must email their contact details to the academic section, along with a COVID-19 declaration
- They must also email the contact details of their parents to the academic section
- Every candidate must carry a copy of their allotment letter and valid photo ID proof issued by the Government of India

JIPMER has also released a list of the items that every student, reporting from a city other than Puducherry, must pack before leaving their hometown.
Essentials that you must pack
- Face shields (two in number)
- 3-ply facemasks (minimum 100 masks)
- Liquid soap for personal use (2 bottles)
- Hand Sanitizer (500 ml)
- Food carriers (two in number)
- Plates, spoons, tumblers, etc.
- Packaged food items which would last 3-5 days
- Clean clothes for at least 10 days
- All other necessary items of personal use, such as toothbrush, toothpaste and soap
What needs to be done or arrival at JIPMER campus, Puducherry?
JIPMER has also explained the protocol that needs to be followed once a candidate reaches the Puducherry campus of JIPMER. Candidates must follow the guidelines prescribed by the institute. Violating the guidelines prescribed by JIPMER will lead to disciplinary actions against the student.
- Candidates must wear a mask at all times
- They must report to the allotted quarantine facility along with their luggage
- Verification of the documents will be carried out at the quarantine facility
- On successful verification, candidates will have to transfer the fee online
- Candidates will also have to remit and an additional deposit of Rs 50,000, which will be refunded later
- During the quarantine period, candidates will not be allowed to leave their rooms
- They will be provided with meals, which will be delivered at their doorsteps
- JIPMER will not charge them for quarantine accommodation, however, they have to pay the standard mess fee for the meals
- Parents/relatives are not allowed in the quarantine facility
- All candidates will undergo a mandatory COVID-19 test on day eight of quarantine
- Candidates who test negative will be allowed to shift to the hostels on day nine and resume duties
- Candidates who test positive will be placed in isolation and will be treated as advised by the COVID-19 team at JIPMER.
