MGM Medical College to double PG seats; gets funding of 175 crore
MGM medical college has received the maximum share of money among all medical colleges in the state. The number of seats are to be increased to 336.
MGM Medical College has got an approval of Rs 175.61 crore for creating new 169 seats in 18 PG courses by the Union Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The ministry has sanctioned an increase of a total of 803 PG seats in various courses in five medical colleges in the state. This is the second-highest in the state to receive the approval for an increase in medical seats after Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal which got approval for 285 seats.
With this, the total PG seats in MGM will be doubled. The college currently has a sanctioned strength of 167 PG seats in various medical courses.
The ministry allowed increase of eight such seats in each - anatomy, anaesthesia, physiology; ten in biochemistry; 15 in pathology; 14 in microbiology; seven in forensic medicine; 14 in community medicine; one in dermatology; five in radio diagnostic; 20 in surgery; five in orthopaedic; 21 in medicine; six in psychiatry; ten each in obstetrics and gynecology; five in transfusion medicine; and four in ENT department of MGM. The ministry has divided total funds for new seats accordingly.
According to Jyoti Bindal, Dean, MGM Medical College, "This is the first time in the history of 70 years that PG seats in a medical college in the state have been doubled. The administration will use this money to set new parameters in the medical field."
These funds will be used for improvement in facilities for patients, academic improvement and construction of new hostels. “The administration will use this money to set new parameters in the medical field and would try to improve academics too,” added Bindal.
