The matter has now been listed for hearing on July 5, 2021. Madras HC noted the plea in regards Supreme Court’s August 2017 order over the validity of NEET. The court has also noted that the State has little room to set up a committee to ‘ascertain if NEET-based admission process has prejudicially affected socially backward students.’
Karu Nagarajan moved the Madra High Court seeking the court’s intervention to stay the process of seeking public opinion on NEET. Petitioner has called the setting up of AK Ranjan committee illegal, pointing out that most of the members appointed in the committee are already opposed to the examination.
In response to the plea, Advocate General R Shunmugasundaram (appearing for the state) has submitted that it was a policy decision taken by the government. Furthermore, the policy decision was backed by manifesto and the people's demand. The matter would be heard on July 5 and the Union of India has been given the liberty to indicate its stand.
