NEET PG aspirants urge NBE for re-opening of the registration form
After the central government has introduced the other backward class (OBC) and economically weaker section (EWS) quotas in all-India medical and dental seats, several National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test postgraduate (NEET-PG) aspirants have approached the National Board of Education (NBE) for re-opening of the NEET-PG registration website to implement the introduced reservation system.
A plea is also filed in the Delhi High Court seeking an extension of the date of application for registration of NEET PG 2021. The plea said that students who became eligible later must also be allowed to submit the application form. A single-judge bench comprising of Justice Prateek Jalan directed the centre to take a decision on this before the next hearing on August 12.
NEET-PG registrations were completed in December 2020 as the exam was scheduled for January 2021. However, due to the increasing Covid-19 cases, NEET PG 2021 got postponed to September 11.
So, now students want to make changes in the registration form for becoming eligible for the new quotas.
Recently, the centre has announced 27% reservation for OBC students and 10% for EWS students in the all-India quota (AIQ) seats for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical and dental courses.
In India, government medical seats are assigned under two streams AIQ (15% of UG seats and 50% of PG) and state quota.
