New PG medical courses at BIMS
Belgaum Institute of Medical Science (BIMS) plans to introduce seven post graduate courses commencing next academic year. If the institute is found to have the requisite facilities and the proposal is approved, BIMS will offer the listed below courses with minimum four seats in each:
- Surgery
- Gynaecology
- ENT
- Ophthalmology
- Psychiatric
- Orthopaedic
- Radiology
Launch of these courses will benefit students from economically poor families the most as they would not have to pay hefty course fee that private colleges charge. “If students want to pursue these courses in private colleges they should pay nearly Rs 80 lakh to maximum of Rs 2.5 crore for each seat,” said Dr Ramaiah, director, BIMS. He said, “We have sent a proposal to the Medical Council of India seeking permission for these courses. At present, we have 10 PG courses in biochemistry, forensic medicine or forensic medicine and toxicology, microbiology, paediatrics, pathology, pharmacology, physiology, social and preventive medicine or community medicine and anatomy. Once these courses are started poor people can also think of doing these courses which are very expensive in private colleges,” reported TOI.
