Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate nine new medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh on July 30. The new medical colleges are reported to be ready and will be functional just after the inauguration.

The new medical colleges will be in the districts of Hardoi, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Siddhartha Nagar, Pratapgarh, Ghazipur, Fatehpur, Etah, and Deoria. Currently, staff are being recruited in these colleges.

As per media reports, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the colleges' administration to complete all arrangements on time, so that these colleges are ready to function after the inauguration.

UP, the largest state in India had only 12 government medical colleges in 2017. Since then the government has been adding more medical colleges to various districts of the state. As per the National Medical Commission, the state currently has 57 medical colleges of which 29 are government-run. If we compare it from 2017, this is an increase of 142 per cent.

The premier medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh are - Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), King George's Medical University (KGMU), and Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences.
