Q: What is the meaning of Stray Vacancy Round?
A: Sray Vacancy round refers to the last round of NEET counselling which is conducted to fill up the seats which are left vacant or unfilled even after three rounds of counselling. Only those candidates who have not been allotted any seat in the first three rounds, or have not reported to the allotted institutes and have opted for upgradation are eligible to participate in the Stray Vacancy round of NEET counselling. In short, it can be said that the stray vacancy round is the last chance to grab a medical, dental or nursing seat for the next academic year.
Q: What are the rules for the stray vacancy round for NEET 2023 counselling?
A: The Stray Vacancy round for NEET 2023 counselling is the last round. MCC is conducting this round for admission to the remaining MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing seats. MCC has laid down the following rules to participate in NEET counselling 2023:
- Fresh registrations shall be done for Final Stray Vacancy Round
- Data will be shared with Centre and the States after Round 3 and if any candidate has his name in the list of allotted candidates in either Centre or
State, then such candidates shall be eliminated from the All India Stray Vacancy Round - AIQ Stray Vacancy Round for vacant seats of Round 3 and Deemed University seats will be conducted by MCC of DGHS, MoHFW through online mode.
- If a candidate is allotted a seat in Stray round, he has to join the allotted seat/college. If the candidate does not join the allotted seat, he/she shall be
debarred from NEET examination for One Year along with forfeiture of fees.
Following categories of Candidates are not eligible for Stray Vacancy Round:
a) Candidates who have not registered for Stray Vacancy Round.
b) Candidate joined/holding any seat at the time of Stray Vacancy Round.
c) Candidates allotted a seat in Round 3 of MCC and not reported.
All candidates not falling under above-mentioned categories are eligible.
Q: Is Stray Vacancy Round of NEET counselling conducted offline?
A: No, the Stray Vacancy round is not conducted in offline mode. MCC is conducting the Stray Vacancy round in NEET in online mode. Eligible candidates could register, fill and lock choices in online mode. The result will also be released online on the official website in PDF format. Only the last step of the counselling, which is the institute reporting, will have to be done in offline mode. Candidates have to be physically present at the institute for document verification, payment of admission fees and completion of admission formalities.
Q: Do we need to register again for Stray Vacancy round of NEET 2023 counselling?
A: Yes, MCC opened the registration window for NEET 2023 counselling from September 21 to September 24. Till last year, there was no registration option for the Stray Vacancy round and only those who had registered and participated in the first three rounds were considered for seat allotment in the Stray Vacancy round. But this year, MCC has changed the process, wherein candidates are allowed to register afresh for the Stray Vacancy round of NEET. Hence, those who have not been allotted seats in the first three rounds, or have not joined the allotted institutes, will be able to register and participate in the Stray Vacancy round of NEET 2023 counselling.
Q: What is the difference between mop-up round and stray vacancy round of NEET counselling?
A: As per the round-wise nomenclature of the NEET counselling, the mop-up round was the term used for the third or the second last round of counselling. On the other hand, stray vacancy round refers to the very last round of counselling. This year, the mop-up round has been renamed as Round 3. The term for the fourth and final round of counselling has remained the same. In terms of process, there has not been any change in the process for the mop-up round or Round 3 and the stray vacancy round of NEET counselling. Till last year, candidates could register only till the mop-up round and not in the stray vacancy round. However, this year the registration process will be active till the final or the stray vacancy round of NEET counselling.
