Study hard and intelligently to crack NEET
By: Aditi Sharma
Manage time properly, take breaks, and work on the strengths and weaknesses to crack the NEET exam with high scores.
The desire of wearing a white coat and walking in the hospital corridors with a stethoscope around your neck or to open one’s clinic could only be possible by the NEET examination.
This offline examination enables medical aspirants to get admission in their desired college. This examination requires the basic knowledge of Class 12 subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The students often find it impossible to cover the Class 12 syllabus and answer all the questions within three hours to make their way through around lakh of candidates with a good rank.
NEET preparation does not only demand a thorough revision of the assigned syllabus but good time management skills as well. The students are expected to answer 45 MCQ type questions from Physics and Chemistry and 90 such questions from Biology in only three hours.
Some of the important methods and mode of practice to prepare for the NEET examination that the students should follow are:
- The method of elimination: Apart from studying, the method of answering the paper plays a vital role in such competitive examinations. The students must give minimum time for reading all the questions. In case they are unable to answer or figure out the method of approach, the student must use different symbols beside the question number according to the difficulty level as easy, medium, hard, and challenging.
- Avoid negative marking: Negative marking plays a vital role as a number makes a difference in deciding the overall rank. Also, negative marking could pull down the rank by thousands, therefore, one must avoid filling the OMR sheet unless they are certain and confident about their answers as erasing is not an option in an offline based exam. So, it is better to score a zero than minus one in any question.
- Work on strength: This happens quite often with students to excel in Chemistry and do equally bad in Physics. Hence, the students must realise their strength and pay more focus these to score well in the exam.
- Know your best time: The students must also take a break to provide peace to their mind and enable better functioning. One must not devote all of their time into studying but also take out sufficient time for relaxation. They should give proper time for studying a particular topic and take proper rest.
- Mind maps: The students should jot down the significant points and formulae in a schematic pattern of every chapter and revise the same regularly. This would help in using such mind maps instead of looking through the whole books to save time and revise the same quickly.
- Play the time game: The students should focus on solving as many papers as they can help to secure a better rank. Also, keeping a check on the timing while solving the questions and then identifying the weak and strong areas. This would help in managing time and work on these areas.
