Supreme Court Refuses To Cancel NEET UG 2021
The Supreme Court has dismissed the plea seeking cancellation of NEET 2021 on the ground of alleged malpractices.
The apex court has dismissed the plea seeking the cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, undergraduate, (NEET UG) held on September 12, 2021, and demanding re-examination.
The petitioner was demanding a re-examination on the grounds of the alleged paper leak incident in Jaipur and also CBI has registered three FIRs in the NEET exam scam. The petitioner was seeking a fresh NEET 2021 exam for genuine candidates who deserve a fair chance in the national medical examination.
A bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao dismissed this plea. Justice B R Gavai of the bench said, "What kind of writs are filed under Article 32? Lakhs of people have taken these exams? When people come to you (advocate), don't you say that these will be dismissed with the cost? Do you now want to cancel the entire exam? You argue, we'll deal with this at length and we'll deal with you specially."
The court order reads, "The petitioner seeks setting aside the NEET UG Exam & direct NTA to conduct the exam afresh. The basis is that CBI has registered 3 FIR's wherein it has stated that there has been impersonation of the candidates. The Counsel submits that there have been reports in the press of NEET 2021 papers being leaked and the same was not conducted in fair & transparent manner. Instances of impersonation and paper leakage cannot be to the detriment to the lakhs of students who have appeared for the exam," as quoted by Live Law.
