Telangana to get two new medical colleges
The Telangana state government has sanctioned the plan to set up two new government Medical colleges in the state. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao approved the plan on Tuesday by signing the proposal from the state’s Medical and Health Department. This decision will benefit the meritorious students who wish to pursue medical education in the state.
The new medical college will be established in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts of Telangana. As many as 150 seats will be allotted to each college. As per the proposed plan, the facilities at the existing hospitals in the districts will also be upgraded along with the construction of new medical colleges.
As per the information, it will take around two years for the establishment of the new medical college buildings. Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences has been assigned the task of getting the approval from the Medical Council of India. With the MCIs approval, the authorities will initiate the budgetary allocation for the colleges.
A budget of Rs 500 crore each will be sanctioned by the state government for the establishment of the new buildings. Rs 450 crore of the total amount is to be spent on capital expenditure and the rest will be utilized to gather work force. The college infrastructure will be built as per the norms prescribed by the Medical Counsil of India.
The approval of the plan has emerged as a major boost for the state’s medical education. At present, there are only four Medical colleges in the state. Establishment of two new colleges will increase opportunities for students. Furthermore, students from rural areas who find it difficult to secure seats in urban areas can now apply to these colleges.
Earlier this month, MCI also approved two new projects, Siddipet Medical College along with Ayaan Institute of Medical Sciences, a private medical college in Rangareddy district. A total of 150 seats have been allotted to each of these colleges. With the new establishments, Telangana now has 3,450 MBBS seats in its kitty.
