Eligibility Criteria for Pursuing B.Ed Course
The minimum qualification required for admission to B.Ed. course is a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)/Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)/Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) from a recognised board/university. A minimum aggregate score of 50 per cent in graduation is a requirement for applying for B.Ed. course. Some colleges/universities ask for a minimum of 55 per cent marks if the student has done post-graduation.
B.Ed Course Admission and Entrance Exam
To facilitate admissions to B.Ed course, many universities/colleges conduct entrance examination to select students who have appreciable learning and communicative capabilities. Teachers Eligibility Test [TET] is an entrance exam conducted by the central government and is regarded as the benchmark entrance exam for B.Ed. course. Admissions to B.Ed. course in universities/colleges in India is conducted mainly through entrance exams conducted by the institutions/states. Some of the main B.Ed. entrance exams are Uttar Pradesh JEE, Banaras Hindu University UET, IPUCET, Madhya Pradesh Pre B.Ed., Andhra Pradesh Education Common Entrance Test, Himachal Pradesh University B.Ed., Entrance Test, and Bachelor of Education Entrance Test. Admission to the same is granted according to the rank of the candidate in the respective entrance exam. Generally, the exams are conducted in May/June and mainly focuses on objective-type questions related to subjects such as English, aptitude, general knowledge, teaching potential, basic arithmetic, and local language. The results of the exams are declared by July/August. Qualifying candidates would have to attend a counselling session after which the merit list is announced
B.Ed Curriculum and Specialisations
B.Ed is a two-year undergraduate course which is categorised into core courses, pedagogy courses, experience for environmental and social sensitivity, and experience for teacher enrichment. The uniform curriculum for B.Ed. is framed by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), which lays down ground-rules and syllabus framework across the nation and is organised in 3 broad categories, namely, perspective in education, curriculum and pedagogic studies, and engagement with the field.
