Last year, the National Medical Commission had announced that NEXT will be implemented in the first half of 2023. Through an official notification, it was announced that a mock test would also be held to make students understand the exam pattern. But no official updates have been released, providing students clarity aboutthe whole implementation process for the Exit Test. As per the latest updates, some students also filed an RTI , seeking answer regarding NEXT implementation. They were also provided 2023 deadline for NEXT.
Confusion Among Students for NEXT
There is a state of confusion among medical students who don’t know whether they should prepare for NEXT or NEET PG. Students are questioning the authority over various social media platforms stating that they should be given sufficient time if NEXT is to be implemented from 2023-24. MBBS students say that it is unfair if they will be informed just 2-3 months before NEXT gets implemented. Taking to the twitter, they have expressed their concerns regarding NEXT exam.
“It would be great if it can be clarified weather final year MBBS students ( 2018 MBBS entry batch) have to write NEXT exam or not. It is too late to announce NEXT for this year and a suspense on it is more problematic,” Dr Rajat Jain tweeted.

Dr Niraj Singh said, “Still no decision has been finalised for MBBS Pass out Doctors. Exam will be in January 2023 (as per some sources). Govt should clarify it soon so that students can prepare as per pattern of exam,” Dr Niraj Singh posted on his timeline. Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also opposed NMC’s decision to implement NEXT saying that change should be done from the first year itself not from the last year of MBBS.
NEXT to replace NEET PG, FMGE
NEXT will be the common exam for PG medical programs such as MS, MD. Medical graduates don’t need to appear either NEET PG and FMGE for PG courses. Qualified candidates will get license to practice in India. Reportedly, the exam will be held in two stage-Next 1 and Next 2.
