Mystory@Samriddha Roy: Nothing can make you happier than doing what you want to do in life
“Two roads diverged in the woods, and sorry I had to choose one...”
That's how it all began. It was in the year 2016, I had just finished with my ISC boards examination. As expected to happen with a Science student, my family begun to fantasise about seeing their only daughter walking hurriedly across the wards in that sublime white apron- quite nice a dream, but no one ever cared to ask if I had the same fancies, for their presumption was quite obvious. Deep in the heart of hearts there was a lurking hope within me to pursue a subject that would be like a ‘Taboo’ for a Science student (according to my parents)... Yes, I wanted to pursue English (Hons.), but there was always an inner voice telling me, “What about mom? No don't dishearten her. Dad will be happy to see me as a doctor”, and with all these thoughts in my mind, I appeared for my AIPMT exam. The exam was in some way a great delight for it went off well and I could happily let go that thought of pursuing English, for life had plausibly given me a better option, but wait! Things were not as smooth as they appeared to be. There was a decision passed by the Supreme Court that appearing in NEET was the only selection criteria. All the other medical exams I had appeared for were nullified. There was again a huge disillusionment that had set within me. Tears rolled down my eyes and I resented of not having told my parents of my wish to pursue English (Hons.). The results were out and I became a BDS student.
Though now I am happy with what I am pursuing BDS at Awadh Dental College and Hospital, Jamshedpur, but nothing can make you happier than doing what you wanted to do in life. My appeal to all the budding hopes- be not afraid to speak up for yourself.
Life in college is pretty different from that of school life. It is not all about hanging out with friends always. When I stepped into the Medical stream for the 1st time, what caught my attention in this college was the faculty. They were amazingly good at what they did and very co-operative. I was lucky enough to have them especially in a field like Medicine, where attention and co-operation from the faculty comes as a boon for the students.
Hardships give you the best enjoyments in life.
Being a part of the hostel, I would say one thing: I was so lucky. The common notion that hostel life is all about hardships, bad food and long yearnings to return home really was not true for me. Life at hostel was so much fun and a big realisation was hardships give you the best enjoyments in life. There was not just fun that we had with friends, but it was like a life we could lead in our own way. It taught us how to take decisions independently and to grow up as responsible beings. I was a sporty girl and enjoyed all kinds of sports. Few people get to cherish what I have cherished in my hostel life.
