14 new medical colleges to come up in Andhra Pradesh
As many as 14 new medical colleges and 14 nursing colleges will come up at various locations across Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone of the new medical colleges in virtual mode boost healthcare facilities in the state. The 14 colleges will come up at Pulivendula, Paderu, Machilipatnam, Vizainagaram, Anakapalli, Rajahmundry, Amalapuram, Palakollu, Eluru, Bapatla, Markapuram, Madanapalli, Penukona, Nandyal and Adoni.
The other two medical colleges in Pulivendula and Paderu are already under construction. The 16 medical colleges will add to the existing 11 medical colleges, making the total number of medical colleges in the Andhra Pradesh to 27. With this, poor students will also get a chance to take admission in these colleges as 70 per cent of the seats will be filled in convenor quota and 30 per cent in payment quota. The construction work is said to be completed in three years at an estimated cost of Rs 8,000 crore.
To ensure proper medical education, 150 MBBS seats have been reserved each for colleges in Vizianagaram, Anakapalli, Amalapuram, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Palakollu, Bapatla, Markapuram, Madanapalli, Penukond, Nandyal and Adoni, while 100 seats each have been reserved for the remaining colleges.
These medical colleges and teaching hospitals will offer emergency, casualty and diagnostic services with advanced intensive care units and 10 state-of-the-art modular operation theatres.
The state government has also decided to offer free land of five acres to anybody who is ready to build a super/multi-speciality hospital with an investment of Rs 100 crore in the next three years.
