16824 UG and 2258 PG AYUSH seats added in 5 years
Total 184 new ASU&H colleges have been permitted to conduct undergraduate and postgraduate courses during 2015-20.
The government of India is setting up satellite institutes of national institutions of Unani, Ayurveda and Homeopathy across the country to push research and innovation in Ayush.
The satellite institutions are being established at National Institute of Homoeopathy, Narela, Delhi; National Institute of Unani Medicine, Ghaziabad, UP; National Institute of Ayurveda, Panchkula, Haryana and All India Institute of Ayurveda, Goa.
The Government has been undertaking various steps to push R&D and innovation in Ayush. The Ministry of AYUSH has set up five Research Councils as Autonomous Institute for undertaking research in Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani, Siddha and Yoga and Naturopathy. The research activities by the Councils are undertaken through peripheral institutes/centres/ units all over India and also through collaborative studies with various universities, hospitals and institutes.
The research activities of the Councils include medicinal plant research (Medico-ethnobotanical survey, pharmacognosy and tissue culture), Drug Standardization Pharmacological Research, Clinical Research Literary Research & outreach activities.
The Ministry of Ayush has also undertaken various measures for the promotion of Ayush Systems of Medicines in various fields. Some of the major steps taken include the establishment of the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa in Leh.
Change of nomenclature and mandate of North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine as North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Folk Medicine Research. Establishment of Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homeopathy subordinate office for effective quality control of Ayush Drugs.
Conferring Deemed to be University status to National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur. Conferring status of Institute of National Importance to Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) at Jamnagar, Gujarat. In order to streamline the Ayurveda education system, the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine has been constituted on September 20, 2020, in place of the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM).
184 new colleges approved
Total 184 new ASU&H colleges have been permitted to conduct undergraduate and postgraduate courses during 2015-20. The effort has resulted in additional 16824 under-graduate seats and 2258 post-graduate seats.
The undergraduate and post graduate admissions in AYUSH education has been initiated through National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) and All India AYUSH Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET) respectively to make the process transparent and merit-based.
