The College Academic Council of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) has suspended 18 students of Anantapur Engineering College for allegedly ragging their juniors. The incident happened on Friday night but came to the fore later after a parent of one of the first-year students who was allegedly ragged complained. The council has started a detailed inquiry into the matter to ascertain facts from the victims and other students for further action.

The victims have alleged that they were forced to stand half-naked. As per reports, the college authorities came to know that some first-year students were taken to Gurukula Hostel, where they were allegedly ragged.

Police take suo moto cognisance of incident

Meanwhile, the police have taken suo-moto cognisance of the incident and began a investigation into the matter. Anantapur Superintendent of Police Fakkerappa Kaginelli said the police had not received any complaint but they took suo-moto cognisance and deputed a DSP-rank officer to probe the matter.
