41 students test positive for COVID at engineering college in Karnataka
As many as 227 were tested for COVID and 41 were found positive for the virus. All students who tested positive have mild symptomatic and are under isolation.
As per a report published in Deccan Chronicle, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has identified a private engineering college in Belthangady taluk as cluster after 41 students tested positive for COVID 19. Health department officials said 227 were tested in the college and 41 were found positive for the virus. All students who tested positive are mildly symptomatic and are under isolation.
The number of COVID cases is increasing in Dakshina Kannada district. Karnataka on Tuesday reported 41,457 new COVID infections and 20 deaths, state health minister Dr K Sudhakar tweeted. Among the new cases, 25,595 cases are from Bengaluru.
A private nursing college in Pathanamthitta, Kerala, was recently emerged as an Omicron cluster. It was suspected that the infection outbreak occurred through a person who recently returned from abroad.
The new COVID cases were found in 11 districts, including one each in Wayanad and Ernakulam, two in Kasaragod, four in Kozhikode, five in Kollam, six each in Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram, eight in Kannur and Alappuzha, 13 in Pathanamthitta and 15 cases in Thrissur.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has shut schools for classes 1 to 9 in Bengaluru until January 31. The decision was taken considering the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. Taking measures to curb COVID-19 in the state, Karnataka has announced vaccination plans for children between the age group of 15 and 18 years. The government is ensuring to vaccinate maximum children with at least one dose by the end of January 2022.
